REVIEW: PALEOVALLEY Snacks, Drinks & Supplements

Incase you’re not familiar with the Paleo Diet – it’s based on eating only meat, nuts, fresh fruit and vegetables, and limits the amount of grains and processed foods. While I’m not totally Paleo, I recently began adding more clean, sustainably-sourced protein to my diet, and just got my first order from PaleoValley!

PaleoValley focuses on making products that prioritize nutrient density, in an industry that prioritizes everything else. They’re known for their nutrient-rich superfoods, and their impeccable attention to detail.  All of PaleoValley’s products are 100% Pasture-Raised, Grass Fed and Grass Finished, from US Family Farms focused on using rotational grazing practices. Organic, Non-GMO ingredients. Gluten Free, Grain Free, Soy Free, and third party lab tested for over 40 pesticides and herbicides. No Antibiotics, Steroids, Hormones, Fillers or Flow agents. No Added Sugars, Artificial Flavors, or Sweeteners, Sugar Alcohols, or Colors.

In addition, they only use low-temp drying methods – so that all the beneficial compounds remain intact, and old world methods of fermenting – so that their products can be shelf stable, without the use of chemicals or questionable ingredients. Right now you and also get an Extra 15% OFF PaleoValley!

Protein, Greens, & Electrolyte Drinks

100% Grass fed Whey Protein with Colostrum (Vanilla)

Not your basic Protein Powder – for Muscle Building, Immune Support, Gut Health, and Healthy Inflammatory Response. Made with 100% Grass Fed and Finished Whey (Concentrate, not Isolate), Colostrum, Coconut Milk Powder, and Digestive Enzymes. This is probably the product I was most excited to try this, since I already use both Organic Grass Fed Whey Protein, and Colostrum, separately.

So far, I’m loving this. I mix it into my smoothies (usually with Frozen Berries, Flax Seeds and unsweetened Coconut Milk), but haven’t tried it just with water alone, so I can’t comment on that. It’s a little on the sweet side for me, as I’m used to using Stevia (not Paleo) instead of MonkFruit (which I’m not in love with the taste of, but I know I’ll get used to it).

Up front, it’s a little pricey, but I realize the difference in quality, as well as the fact that I’m now only buying one product, instead of 2 (Whey + Colostrum). I also noticed it only has 13g of protein per serving (a little more than 1/2 of what’s in the one I was using), which I thought was odd. When I reached out to PaleoValley, they said its the difference in scoop sizes between companies, so, I’d need to use almost 2 of their scoops instead of 1, to get the same amount. Not a big deal, but it makes the bag only 15 Servings (instead of 30). So, something worth noting.

I like Whey because it’s one of the most absorbable, nutrient-dense, complete proteins. It also contains all 9 essential amino acids essential for building muscle and burning fat, and has a Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score (DIAAS) of 133! Research shows that Whey can help with: weight loss, immunity, healthy gut bacteria, glutathione production, cognitive function, balance blood pressure, cholesterol + blood sugar. Colostrum is also scientifically shown to: decrease Leaky Gut (permeability), increase healthy gut bacteria, enhance immune cell activity, and reduce inflammation.

100% Grass Fed Bone Broth Protein (Unflavored)

100% Grass Fed and Grass Finished Bone Broth, without the hassle! Rich in proteins and amino acids. Made from healthy, grass fed, pasture-raised beef bones (not hides!) and filtered water, without the use of chemicals or solvents. Basically, just slow-simmered bone broth, that’s been gently powdered.

I’ve made my own Bone Broth in the past, but always had trouble finding good quality grass fed, organic bones from the Butcher. It was also pretty time consuming, too. So, I eventually just started buying either Bonafide Provisions Bone Broth (my fave), or Kettle & Fire Bone Broth (more readily available at stores). So, this was my first time trying an actual Bone Broth powder. I was a little hesitant, but it’s not bad at all. So far, I’ve used it in my Teeccino, DandyBlend, and Smoothies (all where you can taste it a tiny bit) but added into Soup is my favorite (can’t taste it at all). I haven’t tried it by itself yet, but will update when I do. BTW, it also comes in Vanilla & Chocolate too. I got the Unflavored so I can mix it into Soups, Smoothies, etc., but I might try the Vanilla next time though.

Collagen maintains and improves the structure of connective tissue like skin, muscles, bones, and tendons. It also helps: boost metabolism, support gut health, improve digestion, lowers the risk of heart disease and arthritis, reduce cellulite, and grow healthy hair and nails.

Organic SuperGreens (Tropical)

A blend of 23 organic, antioxidant-rich Superfoods, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes, at a fraction of the cost of buying them individually. No undigestible cereal grasses (like: wheatgrass, barley, oat, or rye). Made with (all organic): Kale, Broccoli, Spirulina, Spinach, Kale Sprout, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collared Greens, Parsley, Broccoli Sprout, Turmeric, Acerola, Carrot, Ginger, Lemon, Strawberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, Beet, Tart Cherry, Elderberry, Cranberry and Monk Fruit.

I add this to my smoothies, but don’t think I’d be able to do this with just water alone. Maybe juice though. It definitely tastes similar to the base of their Superfood bars. Awhile back, there was a Pineapple flavored Greens Powder from another brand I liked (I don’t think they make it anymore), so I figured the Tropical flavor was the safest bet. Also comes in Strawberry Lemonade, and Unflavored. I’d definitely get one of the flavored ones though, as this is pretty potent.

Essential Electrolytes (Watermelon)

Whole food sourced hydration. A potent, natural electrolyte blend of sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and over 60 trace minerals to support healthy brain function, blood pressure, moods, hormone levels, immunity, and improve exercise. Made from unrefined ancient sea salt, organic coconut water, and seaweed extract, without any refined sugar or synthetic ingredients. Flavored with organic monk fruit, organic turmeric root, and real, organic fruit.

I always have an array of Electrolyte Powders on hand to rotate like: LMNT, Redmond Re-Lyte, Ultima Replenisher, ConcenTrace, etc. since I drink them every day. This one definitely tastes a little more real than some of the others (although they’re all made with real fruit too!). Love the hot pink color of this (from Organic Dragon Fruit), and you can see the tiny bits of seaweed extract in it. Also comes in Orange, and Lemon Lime.

One thing to mention is that they use Silicone Dioxide as an anti-caking agent in only some of the flavors of their powders (not all, so check the ingredient lists). I understand the purpose (it would clump otherwise) and nobody wants that! But, I think there are better alternatives out there, like rice-flour, but – it’s not Paleo. So, hopefully with that info, you can make an informed decision about your health. At the moment, the benefits of these products outweigh the negatives for me, and I just avoid the flavors that have it in there.

Organic & Pasture-Raised Snacks

100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks (Original)

Slim Jim dupe! The only beef sticks in the US made from 100% Grass Fed, Grass Finished Beef, and organic spices – that are naturally fermented. A clean, gut friendly, savory protein source. Raised in the U.S.A. by family farmers focused on using rotational grazing practices with lush, green pastures that are free of chemicals and pesticides. No GMO corn-based encapsulated citric acid, or hydrogenated oils.

Grass Fed beef has higher levels of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, higher levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), higher levels of Glutathione, more vitamins and minerals, and is better for the environment. No artificial nitrates or nitrites. 6 gams of protein, and 0 grams of sugar.

So far, I like the Original Beef Sticks. They have several flavors available, and I’ll probably try their Teriyaki next! I also tried their Pasture-Raised Pork Sticks (Maple Bacon), as well as their Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks (Original). Surprisingly, they were all good! The Beef were definitely my favorite, the pork as a close second (although I try to avoid pork most of the time), and the Turkey last. They have a nice snap, when you bite into them too, BTW!

Superfood Bars (Apple Cinnamon)

8+ different antioxidant-rich superfoods, plus, 100% Grass Fed Bone Broth Protein to make getting more vitamins, minerals and nutrients, as easy as a snack! No refined sugar, sugar alcohols, gluten, soy, corn, oats, legumes, denatured proteins, “natural” flavors, and preservatives.

Made with (all organic) cold processed: Pumpkin Seeds, Kale, Broccoli, Spinach, Blueberries, Spirulina, Acerola Cherry, Turmeric, Ginger and Himalayan Pink Salt. Less than 4 grams of sugar, and 9 grams of protein.

I love fruits and veggies no matter what, but I’m always down for getting them in – in any way I can! I love the fudgey / chewy texture of these, and surprisingly, the taste isn’t bad either. Although, I wouldn’t say they tasted overwhelmingly like Apple Cinnamon, there’s a good hint of it. I definitely want to try the Dark Chocolate Chip ones next! I feel like they’d have the perfect amount of fudginess to them! They also come in Lemon Meringue and Red Velvet too.

Vitamin & Supplement Complexes

Essential C Complex

Whole Food-based, full spectrum Vitamin C. Made with three of the most concentrated natural sources of vitamin C on the planet: Organic Amla Berry, Organic Camu Camu Berry, and Organic Unripe Acerola Cherry. Each nutrient-packed serving has 450mg of vitamin C, which is 750% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C – an amount meant to help thrive, not just survive.

I usually take LivOn Labs Liposomal Vitamin C (liquid), but what caught my eye about this one was that it’s food-based, and made with Amla, Camu Camu, and Acerola, which also makes it very absorbable. I’ve done well with adding some of these powders (individually) to my smoothies in the past, but they definitely change the taste of it. So, I’m loving this form of Vitamin C so far!

Grass Fed Organ Complex

A way to get true primal superfoods that boost energy, and fight nutrient deficiency – into your body faster, easier, without having to tolerate the taste (or cooking it, blech!). Made with Grass Fed and Finished Beef Liver, Heart, and Kidney. Natural Source of B12. Gently freeze-dried to preserve nutrients.

As someone who eats meat (not always willingly, and definitely not a lot of it), there’s absolutely no way you’re getting me to eat the organs! Like, ever. Lol. So, instead, I usually take Enviromedica’s Grass-Fed Organic Complex (my favorite, from New Zealand, also Pasture-Raised, Grass Finished, third party tested, etc.), and I’ve also taken Ancestral Supplements Grass-Fed Beef Organs (New Zealand + Australia). I’m excited to try these though as they’re more local-ish (US-based), and come from regenerative farming practices.

Wild Caught Fish Roe

Wild Caught from sustainable fish, in pristine waters (never farmed) for Superior Omega-3 quality and absorption! Prized around the world by various cultures for the beneficial nutrients you’d get with whole food fish. Fish Roe is rich in the essential long chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA).

I’ve taken several different brands / types of Omegas, but have never taken them in the form of Fish Roe – so, this is a first for me! So far, no fishy burps, and I love that I don’t have to keep them in the freezer to avoid that (a little trick my doctor told me). But, I haven’t taken them long enough to really comment yet… will update when I can. FYI: an imbalance in the omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid ratio, can cause things like unhealthy levels of inflammation, low energy levels, poor memory, joint discomfort, dry skin, heart problems, mood swings and even depression.

Turmeric Complex

Whole food-based support for healthy DNA, joints, brain, immune and cardiovascular function. Made from Superfoods shown to support healthy inflammation response for overall wellness (all organic): Turmeric, Ginger, Rosemary, Cloves, Coconut Oil Powder, and Black Pepper. Turmeric in whole food form has been found to be more powerful than when cur cumin is isolated (as it contains nearly 300 other beneficial components). The additional spices  are some of the most potent for absorption, maintaining a healthy inflammatory response, and minimizing oxidative stress.

I juice Turmeric all the time (hate having to clean it out of the Juicer though, FML!), and I also take Leefy Organics PRANA, which is similar, but in liquid form. This is a nice change though, with a few extra additions. I’ll have to see how this is over the long run though, and will update!

Apple Cider Vinegar Complex

Minimizes cravings, supports healthy blood sugar, nutrient absorption, gut health, and weight management. Made with (all organic) Apple Cider Vinegar, Turmeric, Ginger, Ceylon Cinnamon, and Lemon. I’ve gone through phases where I’ve taken shots of ACV – and, let me tell you – it can be pretty horrific first thing in the morning, or – really any time of day, on an empty stomach! This definitely solves that, and is worth checking out!
